Methodology

EDHEC Legal Transformation indexes are built with the help of a panel of Legal Departments at the forefront of specific transformation field (innovation, digital transformation, agility etc).
Our method of designing these indexes is based on a research protocol mobilising the usual resources of academic and applied research: review of literature, questionnaires, interviews.
This protocol has been developed by researchers at EDHEC Augmented Law Institute (EDHEC Business School), a pioneer in the field of legal management and legal transformation research for over 20 years.

1
BENCHMARK SELECTION
Legal Leading Champion
For each transformation field, a Legal Department is selected to identify the performance levers and factors of this transformation.

2
DATA GATHERING
The research starts with a collection of primary and secondary data through literature review, interviews, an immersion phase, etc. The methodology differs according to the characteristics of each field and the specificities of the benchmark.

3
BENCHMARK CONFIRMATION
Legal Leading Champion
The data collected is analysed. The results are published in academic and professional journals, and further exchanges take place with the Legal Department selected to compare the research results with their own experience and analysis.

4
INDEX CREATION
From the research and the Legal Department feedback, a legal transformation index is computed for the transformation field and integrated into AlllMyIndex.legal
Innovative Composite Index

EDHEC’s Legal Transformation indexes are composite.
For each field of transformation, the index is derived from two categories of indicators through a questionnaire:
- KPI | Key performance Indicators :
it refers to transformation performance drivers
Question: How is my legal department performing in terms of [innovation]*? - KLI | Key levers Indicators :
it refers to transformation key levers
Question: How does my legal department foster [innovation]*?
The final score of legal transformation is the KPIs and KLIs scores average.
Scores remains confidential. They are used to drive the Legal Department forward in the improvement and certification processes.
